About
I invest my thinking, efforts and imagination on:
- Technology. I’m a self-taught software developer, with all the pro’s and con’s that implies.
- Design. I’m deeply engaged by all sorts of design: systems design, organizational design, graphic design, usability, software design, architecture. I think of design as the boundary between “thing” and “human.”
- Culture. I’m the organizer of TEDxPotomac, and I’m enlivened by the developing culture of smart, experiential, interdisciplinary stimulation.
- Social good. I’m a former social worker and social entrepreneur very interested in efforts to improve the physical well-being of others.
- Opportunity. I’m an entrepreneur, and my third start-up was recently acquired by a division of IAC. I’m very interested in the “lean startup” movement’s systematization of product development.
- Effectiveness. Before I knew what it was called, I stumbled on The Breakout Principle as a way to stimulate seredipitous insights, and I attempt to achieve my day-to-day and larger goals by practicing Getting Things Done.
- Physicality. I dig the intentional, intense physical connection and challenge that I’ve found in Crossfit.
- Family. I’m married to a beautiful, thoughtful, intelligent woman and we’re parents to a fantastic daughter. I deeply appreciate sharing life with my wife and introducing my daughter to the wonders of the world.
I don’t have a creed but if I did, it would say “Be curious. Be generous.”
